The Family of the Late Freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi says it’s ready to support efforts to exhume the remains of the freedom icon and eventually accord him a decent burial.
In a statement the family said,
“We the family of the late Mau Mau Freedom Hero Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi Waciuri and the entire Mau Mau Veterans fraternity would like to express our gratitude to President H.E. Dr. William Ruto and Deputy President H.E Rigathi Gachagua for their continued commitment to ensuring that the remains of our liberation icon are looked for, exhumed and given a decent sendoff.
The assurance by DP Gachagua on Friday last week that they are willing and ready to work with the family and all Mau Mau veterans to ensure the process is successful is not just very welcome but also very encouraging.
In tandem with DP Gachagua’s commitment, we would like to register our unwavering dedication and support to the exercise and assure the DP and the entire country that, we are willing and ready to offer any necessary support as may be required to ensure Kimathi, the man who paid to the ultimate price for the freedom of our Republic, is given a decent a sendoff.
Just before her demise, Mama Mukami Kimathi said that Kimathi remains getting buried next to her was her dying wish and we are humbled by the concerted efforts across board to ensure this wish is fulfilled.
Let’s walk this historic journey together.”
