POLITICAL PROPHECIES
By: Geofrey Mbui
Worth Noting:
- The failed prophesies have become a subject of mockery directed toward Christians. For instance, after President Biden was elected as the president, many atheists YouTube channels posted videos mocking Christians specifically evangelical Christians. One atheist even questioned the power of God and why he couldn’t fulfil the prophecy before dismissing the idea of supernatural God as childish stupidity. It is one example of what happens when personal preferences and bias are presented as God will.
- Philosopher John Locke theory of social contract articulated freedom of conscience as one of the rights granted by natural law and no rational people would cede it to the government. The separation of the church and the state allows the church to play its role in society by allowing individual conscience to thrive.
As the election fever engulfs the country, many people are aligning themselves with different political factions. Men of the cloth from different religions have not been left behind and are throwing their support to different politicians. Like the past elections, many of them are giving out their prophecies on who will become the president or what will happen after the polls. From experience, majority of the ‘prophesies’ are biased choices made by the preachers based on their wishes.
On 4th November 2020 Americans cast their votes and after six days, media houses called the election for President Joe Biden JR as the President-elect and was later sworn as the 46th President of the United States of America. Before the elections, many Evangelical preachers had prophesied that God is going to grant President Donald Trump the second term as the President. They claimed that God had revealed the prophecy through dreams and visions. Surprisingly, one of the outspoken preachers on the prophecy concerning the election was a spiritual advisor to the President. It is one example of how men of the cloth can be influenced their bias to a point where their wishes become God Prophesy.

Philosopher John Locke theory of social contract articulated freedom of conscience as one of the rights granted by natural law and no rational people would cede it to the government. The separation of the church and the state allows the church to play its role in society by allowing individual conscience to thrive. When a preachers give their views as a prophecy on a particular issue, it creates a mass manship scenario among their followers hence impeding the exercise of the freedom of conscience. According to the Bible, God uses Prophets to warn against sin, teach is commandments, and prophesy of the future. Prophets are a cornerstone in the Christian faith and were used by God to give prophecies such as the birth of Jesus, the Israelites exodus by Moses, destruction of Jerusalem, and the Great Apostasy. In 2 Chronicles 2:20, the bible commands us to believe in God and we shall be established and his prophets and we shall succeed. God also warns against false prophets who will come to deceive many.
Political ‘prophesies’ do more harm to the body of Christ and negate the influence of the church in society. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr used his position as a preacher to fight for racial justice through non-violence. ‘’An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind,’’ remains one of the famous quotes on justice and forgiveness. It is surprising that the majority of the preachers in our country have already given their prophecies on God choice for President in 2022. Many of them made similar claims on the current regime. Men of the cloth hold an important role in the society and can influence the government agenda through advocacy on humanistic issues such as universal health coverage, respect for human rights, education for all, food security, war on corruption. It is time preachers reconsider their political bias and focus on the greater purpose God has bestowed upon them.
