Acting Jubilee Party Secretary General Kanini Kega

Acting Jubilee Party Secretary General (SG) Kanini Kega was yesterday morning hosted by Kamau wa Kangethe of iNooro TV.
He started by briefly giving the history of the Jubilee party and as a founder member the contribution he has made in ensuring the former ruling party achieved its vision and goals.
When we formed this party, we had a clear picture of where we were going. Our objective was to ensure Jubilee becomes a mass movement for all Kenyans but not an outfit of serving the ego and personal interests of an individual.
We still believe in this course and we are committed to safeguard and uphold it.
In light of this, the narrative being peddled around by our critics that we are out to fight and dent the image of former President Uhuru Kenyatta is neither here nor there.
The former President was behind the steering wheel and, therefore, he strongly believed in this same course.
So, those saying there is a bad between him, myself and nominated MP Sabina Chege, are wrong.
If we hated Uhuru, we would not have heeded his call to support his favorite candidate Raila Odinga.
I and Sabina knew we were taking a big risk. We were poised to lose our respective seats.
This is because the Kenya Kwanza presidential candidate Dr William Ruto had penetrated the Mount Kenya region had he was a household name.
As you know, the ambition of a politician is to win the seat and so we made great sacrifices.
Lately, our critics have been claiming that we have been bought by President Ruto of Kenya Kwanza to spearhead a smear campaign against the former President.
This is a big lie. If the current President Dr William Ruto planned to buy me and Ms Sabina, he could have done it in the countdown to 2022 polls. That is when our value was very high. But Dr Ruto knew he would not make it if he had such plans.
Today, I’m just a scrap. The recent changes we have made in Jubilee are meant to strengthen the party.
While stating he was the acting SG of the Jubilee and Sabina was acting party leader, Kega averred. This decision to confirm us was made by Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), a court created by law to deal with parties’ disputes.
The seven-judge bench unanimously upheld the decision of the Political Parties Registrar. The Registrar had earlier endorsed the new changes we had introduced, stating they were within the law.
But the former SG Jeremiah Kioni and his co. were not contented and resorted to filing a petition before PPDT seeking to overturn the decision of the Registrar.
I hope this time round the ousted officials among them Kioni and former vice chair David Murathe will be contented.
Yes, they are free to move to the High Court but I don’t expect them to win.
Kega also explained why the Jubilee party quit the Azimio coalition and the party was not supporting the Azimio led demonstrations.
Yes, we agree the cost of living is high and Kenyans are suffering. The solution, however, does not lies in holding destructive and bloody demonstrations. We have seen innocent people losing their lives. This is totally unacceptable.

Our efforts are aimed at reviving the former ruling party which was very vibrant and strong in polls held in 2013 and 2017, respectively.
Today, this party is a pale shadow of former self. The former President is largely to be blamed for this.
As party leader, he failed to provide the leadership that was badly needed. This situation worsened after his favorite candidate Raila Odinga lost the elections and consequently handed the instruments of power to the winner, President William Ruto.
This caused a vacuum and this explains why we had to move with speed in crafting and rolling out our interventions.
We are now rejuvenating and revamping our party. We are soon going to hold the national delegates conference (NDC) as required by the law.
As I have stated, I and Hon Sabina Chege are holding our respective positions in acting capacity.
NDC is the highest decision making organ. So the delegates will decide on whether to confirm us or replace us with new officials.
The list of Jubilee delegates is still intact. It had not been tempered with and we had deposited a copy in the office of the Registrar.
Majorly, these are the delegates who will attend NDC. It is however important to bear this in mind. The provisions of the Jubilee constitution allow replacement of those who had shifted political allegiance and were supporting the ideals of the rival parties.
Kega parting shot. We are building a strong and formidable political vehicle. Come 2027 polls, we shall field many candidates across the country.
