  • My name is Cathleen Muchena, l am a female upcoming journalist. I started my journey in 2019 when l enrolled at Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA). I started as a video grapher but soon evolved to be the producer I currently am now.
  • I see myself as a power – voice. I want my words to weigh decisions that will be made internationally. Journalism to me is a movement that evolves and I want to be part of the movement.
  • I am glad to say, I have worked quite smoothly with little or no problems but I understand that it’s a changing industry that needs me to constantly be on my feet.

In an industry primarily male dominated it means much to be carving your own mark as a female producer like what Cathleen Muchena is doing. This proves one can reach any heights provided you are prepared to put matters in your own hands. We are living in an age where storytelling and production need to encompass the female touch for equal representation. Thus, for every young lady harboring a dream in broadcast journalism world this is the time to grab the bull by the horns. Needless to mention, action is the first stepping stone to success. The beauty of the trade is that you can find your niche in either being a video grapher, producer, editor or writer. Undoubtedly, the possibilities are endless. Please tell us your name and how your journey started in broadcast journalism?

My name is Cathleen Muchena, l am a female upcoming journalist. I started my journey in 2019 when l enrolled at Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA). I started as a video grapher but soon evolved to be the producer l currently am now.

 Have you won any major accolades for yourself in broadcast journalism?

No, but l know that one day l will, God willing.

Who is your inspiration?

Patience Musa. This is because she has risen in radio ranks and still seeks excellence. I emulate her and l wish l could be like her.

Where do you see yourself in the near future?

What problems have you faced in the broadcast journalism industry as a female?

I am glad to say, I have worked quite smoothly with little or no problems but I understand that it’s a changing industry that needs me to constantly be on my feet.
