In the 21st century sexual immorality is a topic that has been given a deaf ear and a blind eye as less important and given no attention by the current generation. In most discussions be it on daily publications, social media platforms, radio programs, podcasts and television programs you will most probably come across discussions about politics, sports, entertainment and lifestyle issues while rarely insinuate through anything about sexual immorality.
Take for instance when looking for our topics of interests in daily publications and we come across anything about sexual immorality accidentally, in most cases many of us will have no time to have a look at it and if we will then we will end up not reading the whole piece just because it does not interest us or rather will not give us anything that we will keep discussing with our friends during the day.
In the previous days in Kenya we have witnessed different instances of sexual immorality in our social settings and it’s majorly brought about by people we have respected in the society. Pastors, priests, politicians with high ranks in the government and elders in the society have been previously got into sexual acts that go against the accepted norms of the society like adultery, bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism, prostitution, rape, voyeurism and incest.
There being lighter regulation on the kind of music that the youths listen to is a challenge to their sexual morals. Music has a powerful effect on the wellbeing of everyone and so the content that it carries influences largely their sexual moral character. Besides earning a living to those artists who compose them they are now openly promoting immorality together with the kind of the videos they accompany with.
To give a literal example the gengetone musician Timothy Otieno Owuor popularly known by stage name Timmy Tdat got into wrangles with the music copyright society of Kenya after he released a video of the song titled ”VITAMIN U” featuring a Tanzanian female artist Rosa Ree over allegations that it contained actions which are not best for the young generation.
A few months ago various clips surfaced online exposing a senior politician got on camera engaging in sex with a lady purported to be his fiancé although it was not verified but the politician could be seen naked sitting while his privacy exposed to the public. This clearly showed how the society is at a mess in the coming days but no individual or an organization came up to condemn the act but stared as even the underage kids watched the act that which at some point erased some of their morals.
Parents now days are not concerned with the wellbeing of their children intellectually but rather concentrated on striving to provide them with physical basic needs with the ball of advising their children left to children themselves or teachers. Some parents would even not shy away of accompanying the underage children to bars and clubs whereby when they get drunk and sexually engage with their partners in the presence of their young daughters or sons.
The same parents will gather their children at the evening after their supper and only tell them to be careful with their partners, use protective measures or be faithful to their partners even in their twelve to fifteen years while only a few will advise their children not to enter into relationships because they are underage.
Religious leaders have come up with sessions in the church that aims at educating the youths about sex. It will not surprise you when the same religious leader will be caught at night with one the church members in a lodging having sex while their husbands and wives are at home.
To save the coming generation from the dangers that sexual immorality will expose it to we need to come up with standardized measures which will help us successfully leave behind a generation that we shall celebrate even after being laid to rest. As parents, religious leaders, public figures and politicians we should be on the forefront to shape our sexual desires and take responsibilities in educating, guiding and controlling the sexual morals of our children.
