Shurie Calls For Kenyans To Apply For Permits For Them To Abstract Water

The Water Resources Management Authority through the Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Shurie has called for Kenyans to apply for permits for them to abstract water.

By law, every user of abstractive water, be it surface or underground must get a permit, according to the law

The CEO also called for holders of expired water abstraction permits to renew them. At the moment there are 31,551 expired water abstraction permits.

“For any use of water, be it surface or underground, you require a permit which you can apply online. Our country is water-scarce and so we should strive to conserve it. The authority Regulates Water use allocation,

Collects water permit fees and water use charges, Provides information for formulation of policy on National Water Resource Management, water storage and flood control strategies.

Coordinate with other regional, national and international bodies for the better regulation of the management and use of water resources

The CEO also reminded the holders of those permits that failure to comply attracts a fine of Ksh 1 Million or a jail term of two years or both.
