The government passed a bill to ensure provision of quality free and sufficient sanitary towels in all public institutions and is going well with the provision. ”Sanitary towels are provided for children throughout the year,” Says Gladys Boss Shelei Deputy speaker National Assembly and woman representative Uasin Gishu. Over 800 students in Uasin Gishu from grade five to grade eight have been provided with sanitary towels for almost three months use.
Teenage years of every child are challenging emotionally, physically and psychologically especially for the girl child. Studies have indicated that one out of ten girls miss school during their menstruation periods and as a result drop out.
Girls may face social stigma and isolation during their periods, impacting their social interceptions and overall school performance.
On health issues without proper sanitary products, girls might result to using unhygienic alternatives and other health complications.
This initiative of providing free sanitary towels supports the broader goal of gender equality in education and empowers young girls to pursue their studies without hindrance of menstrual hygiene issues.
