The Managing Director of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU), Timothy Mirugi, has announced a significant infrastructural and human resource re-structure to enhance its service delivery to coffee farmers.
The organisation is currently in a transitional phase, with major changes planned, including the introduction of a marketing department, an overhaul of milling machines, and the application for a Direct Sales Agency License.
The government has waived historical debts amounting to Sh6.8 billion owed by coffee farmers nationwide.
The Sh18,415,930 has been disbursed to 4,281 beneficiaries in 11 counties, including Tharaka Nithi. Other changes include hiring additional field services and providing subsidised coffee farming inputs to farmers.
