An inter-agency forum convened and sponsored by the International Justice Mission (IJM) in Kenya has underscored the crucial role communication plays in the Criminal Justice System, further exploring ways in which actors in the System could concert efforts to bolster confidence among the publics.
During the two-day workshop held last Friday and Saturday at Chaka Ranch in Nyeri County, 37 communication officers drawn from 10 government agencies affiliated to Criminal Justice System (CJS) engaged on shared challenges in their line of work, and at the same time suggested ways of strategizing communication.
Speaking during the forum dubbed ‘Inter-Agency Comms Wellness’, facilitators from International Justice Mission (IJM) sensitized on its role and areas of partnerships with CJS actors, in their mission that seeks to protect people in poverty from violence and enhance justice in Kenya, “until all are free”.
“We partner with local authorities to rescue and restore victims, hold perpetrators accountable and help strengthen public justice system,” said Mr J. Kariuki from IJM.
The workshop that also scheduled various team building activities was graced by IJM’s counselling psychologists, who addressed the major causes of trauma, vicarious trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) among officers serving in the security sector, thereafter highlighting ways of Self-Care and its vitality for effeciency in performance.
Communication officers attending the workshop were drawn from NPS, DCI, KPS, APS, IAU, IPOA, ODPP, NPSC, Witness Protection, Judiciary and the host, the IJM.
