The Skies Business Incubation Programme 2024 is offering Sh1 million in business support, mentorship, and training to innovative youth in Kenya.
The programme aims to boost innovations in manufacturing, agriculture, the creative economy, health, and digital technology sectors.
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is one of the main partners, with about 40 early-stage businesses incubated and technical business support.
At least 20 innovators will benefit from track one and 16 from track two, along with 532 students receiving scholarships for rapid tech skills training.
The programme also aims to improve the services of 200 accelerators, incubators, and tech bootcamp providers in Kenya.
The innovations are supported by the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP) and implemented by the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, Spineberg, and the E4Impact Foundation.
Skies will focus on building intermediary capacity, empowering tech education, and fostering an environment of collaboration to enhance startup support and share best practices and ecosystem learnings.
The Southern Kenya Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) is preparing for its upcoming show, titled ‘Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth’, which will take place from July 11 to 14, 2024.
The show, which will feature exhibitors from various sectors, will focus on promoting climate-smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable economic growth.
Chairman Kefa Onduso has urged the public to participate in the Agricultural Show to learn new technologies and innovations, including techniques to combat climate change.
Membership categories will be charged at Sh8500 for executive members, Sh3000 for full members, Sh2000 for single or KPO members, Sh800 for military members, and Sh400 for young farmers.
The show is expected to attract exhibitors from Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homa Bay, and the lower parts of Kericho, Bomet, and Narok Counties.
Nandi County has launched a cancer survivors support group, aiming to provide a welcoming space for cancer patients and survivors in the county.
Over 128 survivors gathered at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital to share their personal experiences and receive moral support from others going through similar situations.
The group aims to instill persistence and hope in breast cancer patients, emphasising the importance of regular screening, early detection, and prompt treatment.
Nandi County Executive Committee Member for Health (CECM) Ruth Koech emphasised the overwhelming process of cancer diagnosis and treatment, emphasising the need for early detection and early treatment.
The group promotes a sense of belonging and solidarity among survivors, offering emotional support, practical advice, and a network of understanding peers.
The CECM also underscored the importance of women taking proactive steps against breast cancer.
The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Nyanza Regional Manager, Esther Okenye, has praised the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) for their efforts in combating drug abuse and illicit alcohol in the region.
The region currently ranks 5th nationally in alcohol and drug use, a significant improvement from the 3rd position.
Despite population growth, alcohol consumption and drug abuse have declined. Okenye emphasised the need for regulated trade and the establishment of a Technical Working Group (TWG) in Kisii County to support prevention efforts.
The Regional Manager decried the increasing use of bhang among the student population, saying that while the national average stands at 1.9 percent, the number of students using the substance stands at 3 per cent.
The TWG is committed to working with young people to share prevention messages and join the fight against illicit alcohol and drug abuse.

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has announced the allocation of Sh7.4 billion to improve educational infrastructure in Junior Secondary Schools across the country.
The funds will be used to construct more classrooms, labs and procure science-related learning materials.
Machogu stated that the development aims to accommodate the growing number of students and improve the quality of science education.
The government has already provided Sh3.5 billion to primary schools for building 1,000 additional classrooms nationwide, and an additional Sh3.9 billion, topped up by the National Government-Constituency Development Fund, has been provided for classroom construction at the constituency level through NG-CDF.
The CS urged principals to work closely with the government to ensure success in the education sector.
