Martha Koome, Chief Justice of Kenya, has emphasised the judiciary’s role in enhancing Kenya’s business climate and promoting investment through a robust commercial justice system.
The Judiciary has implemented several initiatives, including the e-filing system, which allows cases to be filed remotely, and the Judiciary Data Dashboard, which allows the Judiciary to monitor the performance of each court and judicial officer or judge.
The e-filing system also promotes the integration and interoperability of information systems with other justice sector agencies.
Koome also highlighted the cause list portal, which provides real-time access to court schedules, fostering transparency and accountability.
The Judiciary Data Dashboard allows the Judiciary to monitor the performance of each court and judicial officer or judge from the comfort of their offices.
The Cabinet Secretary for Treasury has waived court fees for filing commercial cases not exceeding Sh1 million for two years, with Koome urging KEPSA to engage the Treasury for a continued waiver.
The Judiciary has revamped the Kenya Judiciary Academy (KJA) into a vibrant institution of continuous learning and collaboration, positioning it as the regional hub for judicial learning and justice dialogues.
The Kenya Judiciary Academy will work closely with KEPSA to identify knowledge and resource gaps within the institution, equipping judges and judicial officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle and dispense commercial and tax matters within a reasonable timeframe.
