Nyeri County Commissioner Pius Murugu has assured journalists in the county of their safety and security during anti-government demonstrations.
Murugu acknowledged the media’s role in keeping the public informed and urged them to ensure proper identification.
He emphasised the importance of wearing vests and displaying tags to distinguish them from protestors and criminal elements disguised as journalists. Murugu also reassured journalists of a cordial working relationship with the security team.
As investigations into the violent anti-government protests in Karatina town continue, Murugu stated that the demonstrations, which left seven people injured, were politically instigated. The main motive is to loot and destroy property and taint the county’s name.
Murugu stated that the main goal of the protests was to loot businesses, and the authorities are focusing on those suspected financiers. The ultimate goal is to arrest those involved and identify the ring leader for action.
Nakuru County has begun drilling a borehole at Ndoswa area in Marioshoni Ward of Molo at a cost of Sh3 million to provide clean and safe water for over 2,000 residents.
The development aims to eliminate the challenges faced by residents who often travel long distances to fetch clean water for domestic use and previously used shallow wells that were likely to be contaminated by pit latrines.
Chief Officer for Water and Sanitation, Engineer Margaret Kinyanjui, stated that the new borehole will not only provide reliable access to clean drinking water but also reduce the burden on communities previously dependent on distant water sources.
Once the project is completed in a week, residents will enjoy a constant supply of clean water free from contamination, allowing them to focus on other economic matters and improve their livelihoods.
