When do people get laid off ? At most, it’s on Fridays, end month after receiving salary, December festive season and when the firm incurs losses for having a huge number of employees thus, carries out a retrenchment scrutiny.

When the new management has been installed, employees rarely get laid off but reshuffling of duties is hugely experienced among employees.

But what should one do after being laid off ? On December last year, many companies secretly laid off some of their employees and now, still most of them are battling inner stress.

In shocking situations like the one being experienced during corona pandemic, there’s a need for firms with human resource departments to do better.

Thank the management for giving you a working opportunity

Employees rarely thank their then former employers. Most of them accept termination letters with anger and confusion ending up hating the bosses.

Others, lay blame on some of then former workmates for planting hate and enmity unto them as the cause of termination. It hurts yes but evil shouldn’t be paid for evil.

Thanking your employers covers some insecurities that may occur. More so, at a time in case has been retrenched, may feel conflicted and recall you at work.

Asses your job capabilities and make a change

In whichever one does, there’s always something that a person believes in. “I am doing the best” but to an employer, maybe you are not doing as per expected from you.

After being laid off, asses your capability. It’s you who know where maybe you messed up to earn it or if retrenched, reflect at your efforts towards your work while at the firm.

Were they much adored and valuable? If not so much as others, brace up and do your best next time in another gig you’ll land on.

 Accept you’ve been laid off

Accepting that you’re no longer an employee of a specific firm is a one bold step of opening your minds, sharpening your tools (skills, goals and dreams) and shooting your shots to new gigs.

When you accept that it has happened, your heart feel relieved and brains open. Acceptance declutters your soul with positivities and eyes become as sharp as of an eagle.

Appreciate yourself for sweating to earn a living

It’s so good to appreciate yourself for trying even though things didn’t end well on your side. As you appreciate yourself, thank God too. Appreciation boosts your inner esteem and creates positive thoughts in your mind.

Boosting your self esteem shows you believe in yourself and what you do. Thanking God is a sign of welcoming new opportunities.

Share with trustworthy reliable people around you

After appreciation, it’s good to open up to trustworthy persons. By sharing, most of them will wish you well, impart positive thoughts into your minds and look for you some new job opportunities.

When you share, some pain that may make you devastated get erased. Friendship is good just as socialism. It’s through sharing and socialising that luck will easily knock at your door.

Either get a new job or a mighty piece of advice that will enable you start your own hustles.

Prepare CVs and Resumes and shoot your shot in other firms

Hence sharing is caring at some occasions, manna won’t come from heaven if you don’t explore your brains. Whether advertised or not, just send your CVs and resumes to other firms your instincts urges you to work with.

In other firms, pick an appointment with managers then take yourself boldly and table your inner motives. Tell the manager you need a job. Be bold and determined. Defend yourself like an arrested person before the court of law.

Courage is just a unique letter on its own. It carries the combination of one’s CV and a resume. Have you been laid off ? Look this virgin month. Shoot your shot. Success.
