The National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) in Garissa have been directed to closely monitor all government projects in their areas of jurisdictions and report on their progress on a regular basis. While addressing the officers who include the county commissioner, Deputy County commissioners, Assistant County commissioners, chiefs and their assistants, the North Eastern regional commissioner John Otieno directed them to ensure that no government project stalls especially where money has been availed for completion. This comes at a time when the majority of Kenyans are calling for accountability of taxpayers’ money spent on various projects across the country.
Residents of Igembe South held a procession in Maua town to show support for the impeachment of Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza despite a court order restraining the Senate resolution approving her removal from office by Meru County Assembly. The residents are demanding significant change in Meru county leadership.
Muranga Seal Football Club Vice Chairman, Hussein Mohammed, has welcomed the constitution of a new Electoral Board during the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Saturday. Mohammed, who is vying for the FKF presidential position expects the new board to organize a free and fair election process. The SGM, a crucial event for Kenyan football, focused on several important issues, including the ratification of decisions made by the National Executive Committee, the approval of the newly formed Electoral Board, and the adoption of the 2019/2020 Electoral Code.
During the meeting, members voted to approve the new Electoral Board, which comprises Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ngang’a, Dan Mule, and Marceline Sande. Standby members Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Akumu Asembo were also endorsed, ensuring a strong team to oversee the upcoming elections. 89 delegates from 45 FKF Branches, 18 FKF Premier League clubs, 10 FKF National Super League clubs, three FKF Women Premier League clubs, two FKF Women National Super League clubs and 10 FKF Division One League clubs attended the SGM in Kasarani, Nairobi.
Kiambu County Women Representative Anne Muratha, has empowered students by disbursing over 11 million bursaries and scholarships. Additionally, cheques worth Sh10 million for women groups, youth and PWDs empowerment groups were issued. Muratha, while delivering the goodies at the Kiambu Primary School said the full scholarships was going to students who are in dire need, ensuring that they have the opportunity to pursue their studies without financial barriers. She said that the distribution is unlike the funding for students under HELB which sometimes sees even those who may not merit receive money.
The Deputy Government spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has urged Coastal residents to revive cashew nut and coconut farming which was once a lucrative and source livelihood in the region.
Chidzuga said that with the modern technology in farming, growing of the coastal cash crops has become easier since the introduction of grafted seedlings which only take three years for farmers to start harvesting. Coconut trees and cashew nuts are famously known to grow in coastal areas and in the coastal region, the plant thrives well and has tremendous benefits if well cultivated. She said that as part of food crops production in the area that will boost agriculture as aligned with Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), in a bid to eradicate poverty and empower locals, farming of the two major cash crops will not only generate income to them but also to the country since the nuts can be exported if grown in large scale.
