The National Assembly is expected to consider the Report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on vetting of Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the Inspector-General of the National Police Service.
In a communication to the House, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula informed members of the Senate’s decision to approve Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho for the top police position.
“I wish to report to the House that on 21st August 2024, I received a Message from the Senate regarding the approval of a nominee for the position of Inspector-General of the National Police Service,” read the Speaker.
“The Senate, by a resolution passed on 20th August 2024, approved the appointment of Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the Inspector-General of the National Police Service,” Wetang’ula added.
The Speaker stated that the vetting exercise, done in a joint sitting between the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security and the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations, was in accordance with Article 245(2) (a) of the Constitution.
“Accordingly, the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security is expected to table the Joint Report on the vetting of the nominee this afternoon,” added the Speaker.
Consequently, the debate for the said Report will be conducted today during the morning sitting.
