Safaricom has announced a major upgrade to its internet services for home and business customers, introducing faster speeds and greater value to meet the evolving needs of its users. As part of the enhancements, Safaricom has launched a new ultra-fast 1000Mbps (1Gbps) Platinum plan for home customers, making it the first provider in Kenya to offer Giga speeds for home internet. Priced at Ksh 20,000 per month, this plan caters to heavy internet users such as gamers, content creators, and those using virtual reality applications.
Existing home customers will automatically be upgraded to the new speed tiers at no additional cost. The revamped packages now offer higher speeds across all tiers, from the Bronze plan’s new 15Mbps speed to the top-tier Platinum plan with 1Gbps.
The elevated new internet speeds include: Bronze10 Mbps to 15 Mbps at ksh2,999,Silver 20 Mbps to 30 Mbps at ksh4,100 ,Gold 40 Mbps to 80 Mbps at ksh6,299,Diamond100 Mbps to 500 Mbps at ksh12,499 and the new Platinum 1000Mbps at ksh20,000.
In addition, Safaricom has introduced the Family Share plan, which integrates mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into a single package that can be shared with up to five household members. Customers on this plan will also benefit from up to a 20% discount compared to purchasing Fibre and mobile services separately.
Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering reliable and enhanced connectivity.
“The introduction of these new speeds enables users to handle even the most demanding online activities, including 4K/8K streaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and gaming. With the Family Share plan, we offer a convenient solution that brings together mobile and internet services for the whole household.” Said Ndegwa
Safaricom has also upgraded its Business Fibre offerings, introducing speeds of up to 1Gbps for Medium and Large Enterprises. These plans come with additional features such as 24/7 proactive monitoring, burstability, static IP support, and a 99.99% uptime guarantee, ensuring seamless and reliable service for businesses.
For Micro and Small Enterprises, the new plans range from 15Mbps to 100Mbps and include mobile data backup to ensure uninterrupted operations during outages. Business customers will also enjoy one-time offers, including a 30GB mobile data bundle and a free email and website domain for new customers.
Safaricom’s increased Fibre footprint has been a key driver of internet adoption, with over 17,000 kilometers of Fibre now covering the country. In the last financial year, more than 110,000 new customers connected to the service, bringing the total to over 370,000 homes and 32,000 businesses.
These new offerings are part of Safaricom’s ongoing efforts to celebrate 25 years in the market and drive deeper engagement with customers through innovative products and services.
