Of late the price increase of the cooking gas has been hitting on the news headlines. The Kenya Revenue Authority have imposed the tax to the importers after raising the taxes on imported LPG by more than ksh.3800, based on the importers they are saying that they have not receive any notice from Kenya Revenue Authority since they are denied entry from Tanzania until they adhere to the payment of the new taxes.
As I quote, ” we were not given any notice by Kenya Revenue Authority about the increase of the taxes, our trucks were just stopped at the border with customs demanding for extra monies,” says Yussuf Hussein, the chairman independent Gas Dealers Association.
According to Jamal Juma, a truck driver who says that their life will be in danger because some of their tanks have started leaking after they have abandoned some of them at the parking bay fearing that they might explode at any moment.
In addition, the independent gas dealer says that he will be forced to push the price hike to the customers after the Kenya Revenue Authority will imposed the new taxes to them since it is business they are dealing with, they will push the prices of the 6KG gas which is currently at ksh.1200 to 1500 and the 13KG which is currently at ksh. 3000 to 3500.
Due to this increase it has made many Kenyans to turn back to the use of charcoal and kerosene because their prices are affordable, in which at the other hand is affecting the gas dealers since their business is deteriorating due to decrease of their customers.
