Nyamira County Commissioner (CC) Erastus Mbui has stated that the county cannot afford to compromise the areas’ security due to politically instigated criminal actions. He sounded the warning yesterday after holding an emergency closed door security meeting with all elected leaders in Nyamira County following series of criminal acts in the past two weeks which caused serious damage to property and endangered people’s lives. “We have held an emergency security meeting with all the elected leaders in this county to forge a way forward on how to settle the insecurity situation before it gets out of hand,” Mbui said.

Seven people were arrested in Narok town for flouting alcoholic drinks regulations after a multi-agency team mounted a crackdown in the area. The multi-agency team consisted of officers from National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), National Police Service and National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), who held a day long crackdown exercise in the town. The operations were led by NACADA South Rift regional manager Robert Olweny, who said their aim is to ensure all outlets that sell alcoholic drinks complied with the laid down regulation. He decried that a number of premises visited had not fully complied with the Alcoholic Drinks Control Acts, forcing them to shut the promises until they comply.

Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has warned his executive that they risk being relieved of their duties if they will not perform. Speaking during the signing of performance contracts for the County Executive Committee Members (CECM), Otuoma said he will not entertain leaders who will derail his effort towards serving the people. “If you have been thinking that you are holding that office because of the friendship, that friendship ends today because we are not going to hide the future of our people to retain you. Despite the challenges, service delivery is the main issue now because you will be accountable to us and to the people’ he said. He reminded his executive to work for the people stating that the county depends on the CECs for policies, operational issues, tactical and implementation issues.
