The Engineering Board of Kenya hosted a week-long training workshop for Graduate Engineers from various agencies, including the National Construction Authority, the National Police Service, Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIBHT) and the State Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The workshop is designed to guide these Graduate Engineers in preparing their professional examination reports.
Speaking at the opening on behalf of the EBK Chairman, Eng. Benjamin Maingi emphasized the vital role engineers play in national economic development and sustainability.
“The number of registered engineers in Kenya is significantly below the UNESCO-recommended ratio of one engineer for every 5,000 people in middle-income countries,” Eng. Maingi stated.
To address this shortfall, the Board has set several strategic goals, including increasing the number of registered engineers, enhancing their competency, and fostering collaborations to create job opportunities.
He said that the board’s goal is to ensure safety in engineering infrastructure and to establish a pathway for the transition to professional engineers,” he added.
The board Registrar and its Chief Executive Officer Eng. Margaret Ogai stated that the Board is dedicated to enhancing the registration process for professional engineers by tackling key challenges and implementing strategic solutions.
She highlighted that the Board has developed measures to streamline the registration process and provide support for graduate engineers.
“Last year, over 500 graduate engineers participated in our training workshops,” Eng. Ogai revealed, adding, “We are committed to improving the efficiency of the interview process to help more engineers achieve professional status.”
