It can be said that Kenya has a gem, a powerhouse of experience, knowledge, and a think-tank in the person of Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano who is currently handling the Tourism and Wildlife Ministry. With a hands-on experience spanning close to three decades in both the private and public sector, CS Miano is a recognized selfless public servant who spares no ounce of energy when executing her duties geared and streamlined towards service delivery.
Whatโs more, Miano is an inspiration to many. The Mount Kenya Times E-Paper has collated some of CS Mianoโs key achievements. Since taking the helm of the Tourism and Wildlife docket in June 2024, CS Miano has reinvigorated this crucial sector which contributes immensely to the Kenyan economy.

The tourism sector reported revenue growth of over KSh 142.5 billion and more than 1 million visitors in the first half of the year. For the six-months CS Miano has steered the tourism portfolio, she embarked on the launch of the KWS Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which charts a clear and accountable framework of engagement for KWS for the next five years. Similarly, she also launched the strategic plan 2023-2027 for the Wildlife Research and Training Institute together with the National Wildlife Training Agenda 2024-2033. The 2 documents are a solid framework for the conservation of Kenyaโs national heritage and wildlife research and training in Kenya.
Hon CS Miano also Pushed for digital nomad work permits specifically designed to welcome global digital nomads to Kenya. This initiative underscores that Kenya is open and ready to be home, allowing one and their family to live here while working online from anywhere in the world. This was announced last week.
She has also successfully lobbied for Transit & Long Connection Travellers ETA, enabling transit visitors to step out of the airport and explore the beauty of their home away from home. This initiative will enhance our appeal to travellers on longer connections, inviting them to experience all that Kenya has to offer.
She has Signed an MOU with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to strengthen security for tourists signaling the regard Kenya has for the tourism sector.
She Launched the online wildlife research permitting portal for WRTI aimed at easing the admittance of researchers in Kenya.
In a bid to revive the sector and give it more impetus, Hon CS Miano also launched nine regional tourism circuits as part of a market diversification strategy to attract both foreign and domestic tourists.
Demonstrating her profound passion for Wildlife, Hon CS Miano has welcomed key milestone that scientists are inching closer to saving the northern white rhino species from extinction through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). At the moment, only two Northern White Rhinos remain at Ol Pejeta conservancy in Laikipia County, where they are always under surveillance 24/7. CS Miano, oversaw the capture and release of a herd of fifty elephants from the Mwea National Reserve to Aberdare National Park. The elephant population in Mwea had risen significantly exceeding the reserveโs carrying capacity by a big margin.
In December 3, CS Miano alongside President William Ruto presided over the passout of over 1200 Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers at the Law Enforcement Academy in Manyani, Taita Taveta County.
The rangers who had undergone a training of paramilitary for a period of six months were deployed to different national parks, cultural sites and other areas that conserve and protect wildlife.
And when she was servin in the docket of Investment Trade and Industry, one of her Key Milestone she is proud of is spearheading the signing and ratification by the National Assembly of the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement. The EPA will ensure that farmers, processors, and traders enjoy permanent duty-free and quota-free access to Kenyan exports โ flowers, tea, coffee, fish, veggies, fruits, nuts, and more.
It also opens significant opportunities for the EU in trade and investment in Kenya, spurring job creation in manufacturing โ chemicals, steel, pharmaceuticals, machinery, & related sectors, ultimately positioning Kenya as a hub for European investors eyeing EAC, COMESA, & AfCFTA (Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement).
The landmark Kenya-European Union Economic Partnership Agreement signals to the globe that Kenya is ready to manufacture and export high-value products to the world.
