Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has reiterated his commitment to serving the residents of the county, stressing that his priority remains on delivering key development projects rather than engaging in early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service at PCEA Jennifer Njuki Memorial Church in Magumoni Ward, Njuki made it clear that he would not be distracted by political wrangling, particularly the growing campaigns from individuals eyeing the gubernatorial seat in the upcoming election.
“I am focused on serving the people of Tharaka Nithi and working to achieve the goals I set for myself and the county,” said Governor Njuki. “I will not allow myself to be dragged into unproductive politics. My focus remains on fulfilling the promises I made to the people.”

Addressing the growing political speculation around his seat, Njuki responded to reports that certain politicians, particularly those vying for the governorship, had been invoking his name in their campaigns. The governor clarified that he had not endorsed any candidate for the seat.
“Just as I went around seeking support for the governorship in 2017, those who are eyeing the position should also go to the people and seek their endorsement,” Njuki said. “I am not endorsing any of them, and they should not expect me to. Let them go to the people and sell their manifesto because I only have one vote.”
However, the County Chief noted that though he will not endorse anyone, he has political influence and there are those who will follow his choice when the right time comes.
He also told-off those claiming that he will be retiring from politics in 2027 noting that he is still politically productive and if the county residents feel like giving him some more responsibilities he will definitely take them.
Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Speaker John Mbabu and the county’s Administration and Devolution executive Muthini Karangi also urged politicians to give the Governor ample time to serve.
They said 2027 is still far and leaders should not waste all the remaining time doing politics but serving the people.
“Those who are going around dragging the governor into politics should stop and focus on what they plan to do for the people if elected because Njuki is going on with his work,” said Mbabu.
However, Muthini said Governor Njuki should be the county’s next senator and expressed confidence that he will smoothly take the position.
“I am waiting to see that person who will have confidence to run against Governor Njuki for the senatorial seat in 2027,” said Muthini.
Governor Njuki’s comments come amid a rising political tension in the region, with several individuals believed to be positioning themselves for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
However, the governor remains steadfast in his focus on development and service delivery to the people of Tharaka Nithi, signaling that his administration will continue working on key projects that directly impact the lives of local residents.
Already, the county’s women representative, Ms Susan Ngugi, Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki, Tharaka Member of Parliament Gitonga Murugara and former Chuka University Vice-Chanceloor Prof Erastus Njoka have already hit the ground running.
