The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is setting the standard for performance excellence in conservation, as it concludes the evaluation of its FY 2023/2024 Performance Contract. Speaking during the process, KWS Director General, Prof. Erustus Kanga, expressed his gratitude to the Board of Trustees for their unwavering support throughout the contract’s implementation.

Prof. Kanga also commended the Heads of Directorates and their respective teams for their dedication and timely reporting, which ensured the smooth execution of the Performance Contract. “Your commitment has been instrumental in meeting the set objectives, and I appreciate the effort and professionalism displayed throughout this process,” he said.

The Director General highlighted that KWS had adequately prepared for the evaluation by conducting a comprehensive self-assessment and compiling all necessary evidence and explanations for the agreed performance indicators. This proactive approach reflects KWS’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and achieving its conservation goals.

“The evaluation process underscores our commitment to fostering accountability and driving performance excellence in the wildlife sector,” Prof. Kanga remarked, adding that such initiatives strengthen KWS’s ability to fulfill its mandate of conserving and managing Kenya’s rich biodiversity.

KWS has remained steadfast in its mission to protect Kenya’s wildlife heritage, even as it navigates complex challenges such as climate change, human-wildlife conflicts, and resource constraints. By aligning its operations with measurable performance indicators, the organization ensures it remains a leader in wildlife conservation and management.

As KWS continues to implement its conservation strategies, it reaffirms its pledge to safeguard Kenya’s natural treasures for future generations. Through strong governance, collaborative efforts, and a results-driven approach, the agency is on course to achieve sustainable success in the wildlife sector.
