The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has launched a two-week pilot training program aimed at enhancing the capacity of prosecutors in the fight against terrorism. This initiative, held at the Prosecution Training Institute, is part of ODPP’s broader strategic agenda to combat terrorism, terrorism financing, violent extremism, and radicalization, which pose significant threats to national security, stability, and the rule of law.
During the launch of the Counter-Terrorism Module and training program, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW, emphasized the critical role of the prosecution in countering terrorism. He noted that tackling these complex challenges requires a comprehensive, multi-agency, and whole-of-government approach, with prosecutors playing a pivotal role in ensuring justice is served and perpetrators are held accountable.
“The fight against terrorism demands specialized skills and knowledge to investigate, prepare, and present compelling cases in court. This training will empower prosecutors with the expertise needed to handle terrorism cases effectively,” said DPP Ingonga.
He encouraged the participants to actively engage during the training, embrace new knowledge, and uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability in their work. The DPP also urged them to align their efforts with the values outlined in the recently launched ODPP Strategic Plan 2023-2027, which emphasizes independence, transparency, and teamwork in delivering justice.
The pilot training program underscores the ODPP’s commitment to strengthening prosecutorial capacity to address emerging security threats. By equipping prosecutors with specialized skills, the office aims to ensure a robust response to terrorism and related offenses, safeguarding the nation’s security and upholding the rule of law.
