During the visit, the former Head of State was accompanied by Kenya’s Ambassador to Germany, Stella Mokaya Orina, who also serves as the envoy to Poland and the Czech Republic.
Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mutahi Kagwe is leading a Kenyan delegation of tea sector stakeholders to the Gulfood Festival 2025 in the UAE, a key platform for expanding market access.
This mission aims to grow Kenya’s tea exports across the UAE, Middle East, Far East, and Europe thus strengthening government ties. The UAE is now Kenya’s 4th largest tea market, importing 28.6M kg worth about KSh10.1B in 2023. Beyond bulk trade is seeking to attract retail-level partnerships and establish “Common User Facilities” to enhance value-added exports. The CS is accompanied by among others, PS Jonathan Mueke, Willy Mutai of Tea Board of Kenya, Wilson Muthaura and Chege Kirundi of Kenya Tea Development Agency – Holdings Limited as well as officials from the Ministry and other stakeholders.

Global m-mama representative Mr. Lee Walls yesterday paid a courtesy call to Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Deborah Barasa to discuss the rollout of an emergency medical transport system for pregnant mothers and newborns in need of urgent care. The Cabinet approved the establishment of this system on December 17 last year as a critical intervention to reduce delays that contribute to maternal and newborn mortality. The CS noted that the government appreciates the support from partners, including Vodafone Foundation, M-Pesa Foundation, the British FCDO, Grand Challenges Canada, and other funders, for committing resources to this life-saving initiative. She said the State has also committed KSh2.6 billion over three financial years to support the program. “With today’s discussions clearing the way, I am pleased to announce that the system will be fully operational by July 2025, benefiting 1.5 million mothers and 2 million children,” said the CS.
Zetech University yesterday hosted over 300 Secondary School Principals at its Technology Park, Mang’u Campus. The theme of the forum was Champions Dialogue on Quality Education and was convened with the collaboration of Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association KESSHA – Kiambu Chapter. Key education stakeholders, including Dr. Patrick Mathu (KESSHA – Kiambu Chairperson), Mr. Wanjohi S. Mwangi (Kiambu County Director of Education), Mr. Joseph Kiige (TSC Kiambu County Director), and Ms. Agnes Theuri (County Quality Assurance and Standards Officer), engaged in insightful discussions on CBC implementation, curriculum delivery, learners’ performance, leadership of education institutions, and learners welfare matters. The forum was informed that, As a future-focused institution, Zetech University is committed to continue supporting CBC training and capacity building, offering state-of-the-art facilities to equip educators and learners for success.
Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary, Eng. Eric Mugaa, yesterday emphasized the importance of water in driving the growth of agriculture in the country noting that the current agricultural production is dependant on the vagaries of weather. Speaking during a briefing on the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan ( NISIP), the CS noted that availing water for irrigation holds the key to food security for the Nation. The CS therefore hailed efforts by the State Department for Irrigation in developing the 5-year investment masterplan that seeks to to attract both local and international investments in irrigation in a bid to increase land under irrigation and thereby enhance food security.
The NISIP Masterplan addressses both policy directions and strategic thinking that are needed to enhance resource optimization, foster economic growth, enhance food security, build climate resilience of Kenyan communities, create employment opportunities, support watershed management and ensure resource sustainability.
