NG-CDF Labour Based Program Transforms Infrastructure In Othaya Constituency, Boosting Development And Transparency

An Initiative on how to maximumly utilise government resources has seen projects in Othaya Constituency, funded by the National Government, Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) spend bare minimum, to the advantage of the locals.
The adoption of a labour-based program in the Constituency has transformed schools and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) Infrastructure, thereby ensuring development funds are effectively utilized while creating job opportunities for the residents.
Speaking at Munaini Comprehensive School, where the entire school was newly constructed using this approach, area MP Wambugu Wainaina praised the program’s impact.
He officially handed over the school new Infrastructure which were funded through the local NG-CDF as well as personal funds from President William Ruto.
The school used to be the third President, the late Mwai Kibaki’s polling station as it barely less than two kilometres from his Kanyange home where he his remains were interred following his death on April 22, 2022.
After the ceremony, the MP also visited Kihuri Comprehensive School, where nine classrooms have been successfully renovated under the same initiative.
According to the MP, this method has enabled the constituency to renovate 50 primary schools so far.
Funds have already been allocated to renovate the remaining six primary schools.
Additionally, all primary schools in Othaya are now fully tiled, and the installation of cabro pavements is set for the upcoming financial year.
The MP emphasized that by eliminating contractors, who often take a significant cut of development funds, the labour-based program ensures resources are maximized.
“This method ensures that every shilling goes into the intended project, directly benefiting our schools and the local workforce,” he explained.
The MP underscored his commitment to transparency in the management of NG-CDF funds, assuring residents that records are publicly accessible to maintain accountability.
“There is no corruption in Othaya. Transparency is key, and if we refrained from corruption as a country, we would be far ahead in development,” he stated.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, MP Wambugu highlighted the NG-CDF’s ongoing support for education through the Masomo Bora Initiative.
Under this initiative, no student in day secondary schools is sent home due to school fees.
Parents pay KSh1,000, while the NG-CDF covers KSh 8,000 per student.
Othaya is the second constituency in Kenya to adopt the labour-based approach, which has proven to be a game-changer in ensuring development funds are used effectively while uplifting the local community.
Local residents hailed the MP’s effort saying it had transformed the Constituency at minimal cost.
