In Kenya, agriculture remains the largest source of income for both poor and non-poor households in rural areas. Most parts of the country is now experiencing enough rainfall, showing that it is planting season. Farmers, has been crying for the government to subsidize fertilizers so as to enable them practice farming.
It is now a relief for them, as now, the government has slashed fertilizer prices by almost a half. According to the agriculture ministry, a bag of DAP, that was selling for 6,000, will now go for Sh 2,800, and others.
It is high time, farmers to cuddle farming, to improve food security, the country is now experiencing the high prices of foods due to harsh economy.
Farming will enable them to produce enough food for the country, thus,Β saving the starving Kenyans, who currently, can not afford. In my view, the government should as well extend subsidies to the seeds and other agricultural inputs to enable all farmers plant different crops.
Farmers should therefore embrace agriculture, to improve food security.
