Government has disbursed Ksh. 3.51 billion to support vulnerable groups under the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme for the month of May.
In a statement, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Joseph Motari, has confirmed that payments began yesterday. A total of 1,759,656 beneficiaries will each receive Ksh. 2,000.
“The funds have already started reaching the intended recipients, this initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to support older citizens, orphans, vulnerable children, and individuals living with severe disabilities,” confirmed Motari.
Inua Jamii is a long-standing government effort designed to offer financial relief to those most in need. The programme targets older persons aged 70 and above, as well as households caring for orphans and those with severe disabilities.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, this latest disbursement brings continued stability to some of the country’s most economically at-risk households.
The government has urged beneficiaries to collect their payments through their designated pay points and to report any issues to the nearest social protection offices.
