Over 300 traders from Nyambari trading centre in Lari constituency of Kiambu county are set to benefit with a KSh50 million market.

The market, which is fully funded by the State department of Housing and Urban Development under the Economic Stimulus Program, will leave traders accommodated in the modern facility, area member of parliament Mburu Kahangara said.

The legislator said the facility will be built within 6 months and after its completion, the market will be handed over to the county government so that it can place traders and start collecting revenue.

Kahangara said that the market is among the many such facilities which President William Ruto promised locals so as to improve their working condition.

The legislator urged local traders not to engage in petty politics regarding who was building the market or doing any project, since community projects were not done to benefit politicians but the electorates.

“What is important is to check on the impact of a project like this one. The national government was building it through the state department of housing and urban development. After it is completed, we shall hand it over to the county government who will manage it, place traders, and collect revenue among others” he said.

He was accompanied by engineers from the state department, CDFC officials, the traders chairman Njenga Wairagi, Lari Kirenga MCA aspirant Gitau Njuguna among other leaders.

A trader Elizabeth Wanjiru said a lot of traders had resulted in closing down when the rain starts, since many of them operate from wooden makeshift stalls which are covered using polythene paper.

“We have never seen this. We know the days of muddy markets are coming to an end once the facility is complete.  The new one will have a roof among other items” she said.

The legislator noted that the market will be fitted with modern cold room stores and dry cereals storages, mothers rooms where women can breastfeed their children from them, children play area, Kitchen area, modern ICT hub, garbage collection area, parking and an ablution block.

Other items are ATM booths, sacco offices, borehole, social hall, administration offices among other facilities.

The MP spoke during the ground breaking ceremony, when he urged the locals to support the President William Ruto’s government.

“The government which is in office needs to be supported. People have never understood how they are supposed to support it” he advised.

“If the MP serving you at that particular time was elected using the ruling party’s ticket, you are likely to benefit a lot with projects that will add value to your lives and improve your lives” he noted.

Wairagi further applauded the government for selecting an attractive site to build the facility, saying it will help to away many traders who operate at the road reserve of the Nairobi Nakuru highway.

Kahangara noted that, Nyambari trading center lies along the Nairobi Nakuru highway, where over 200 traders have opened markets in an area which was earmarked by the Kenya National Highways Authority as a road reserve and an areas which will also be affected by the construction of the Kamandura Mau Summit road.
