Youths in Kericho have been called to refrain themselves from engaging in demonstrations that has led to loss of several lives and destruction of properties worth millions of shillings across the country.
While addressing the congregation which brought more than Fifty youths leaders drawn from Kericho county during a meeting held at Kericho hotel Myoot Council of Elders chair Richard Ngeno condemned last month 25 demonstrations saying it destroyed the image of the nation globally .
Ngeno said the Gen-Zs protest in Kericho vandalized the UDA wheelbarrow symbol after it was reinstated on July last year which is outdated and barbaric behavior displayed by the youths who participated on the protest.
‘The vandalism of the wheelbarrow shows disdain to our beloved President painting black our community an act which has not be forever ,we are aware that some of the youths who took part are not from our community and since we accommodate everyone let them abide by the rules of the land’,Ngeno added.
He lamented that as long as the law allows right to demonstrate then has to be peaceful rather than destroying government and private properties and every parent should take part in talking and warning their children from taking part in national or local destruction of properties.
Ngeno also called the youth to be vigilant enough and report any concern case which may likely cause bridge of peace and the South Rift Region they are at the forefront in preaching peace to all.
According to Jonathan Rotich a clergy who was present at the event echoed Ngeno’s words where he urged the youths to use the learned skills on various education institutions to innovate products and services which can help them in getting their daily bread.
‘We are aware that as long we leadership is concerned there must be any challenges and to address all these holding demonstrations cannot solved thus the best way is having a dialogue with the leaders concerned’,Rotich said.
He urged the youths not to engaged on any activity which may lead to loss of life or the property but to engaged in matters development to them in the nation and globally. ‘There are several jobs overseas it’s your time to take the lead by applying for various positions for this will changed your life and also there entire community’, he added.
Kericho Youth President Elkana Kiprotich precarious the demos saying they didn’t took part and those protested was alleged to have been brought from other counties to demean the image of Kericho where he called upon the youths to refrain from such acts.
Kiprotich said the dismantling of Yellow wheelbarrow which is a symbol of ruling party and for the youths who took part on the process on behalf of them they have seek the forgiveness and blessing from the elders.
‘Its my appeal to all youths to preach peace at all cost live in unity since we are one nation and the forgiveness that our elders has accepted its now our mandate to do all what matters to build and protect our nation from burning’,Kiprotich said.
The vandalism of the UDA symbol came on sequence after it was re-erected on July last year following Gen –Zs protest over financial bill which brought hundreds of elders across the community where they hoisted the wheelbarrow they sprinkled traditional drinks and milk around the mast in a ceremony conducted near Petrol station in Kericho town.
