Leaders and the local community from Kajiado North Sub-County on Thursday held a day-long meeting to address and discuss security matters following protests that were held on June 25 that had seen businesses premises destroyed. Held at Beacon of Hope in Ongata Rongai and chaired by the Ngong Assistant County Commissioner, Metrin Matingi, various leaders called for an increase in police personnel in the area.
Onesmus Ngogoyo, the MP for Kajiado North, said that the police-to-population ratio in Rongai was too low and thus overwhelmed by demonstrators. Ongata Rongai was one of the areas that the protests immensely affected, with a lot of business premises destroyed, cars vandalized, and lives lost. “As much as the holding of peaceful protests is stipulated in the constitution, people are not allowed to take part in protests in areas where they don’t belong,” said Ngogoyo.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to the Social Health Authority (SHA) by dialing the toll-free number *147#, a firm stand to protect the integrity of public health services and ensure that every Kenyan receives safe, dignified care. Speaking during a public engagement at Voi Stadium in Taita Taveta County, Duale urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated during the 14-day Nationwide Integrated Measles-Rubella and Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine Campaign, which officially kicks off tomorrow, 5th July 2025. The CS also acknowledged the contribution of 1,322 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) across Taita Taveta, describing them as the backbone of Kenya’s community health system. The ongoing rollout of digital health tools and targeted vaccination efforts signal the government’s renewed push to rebuild public trust, strengthen accountability, and make quality healthcare accessible to all.
The State Department for Environment and Climate Change led by Dr. Selly Kimosop, Environment Secretary on Friday held a meeting with Mr. Abdikarim Mohammed, Coordinator of the Climate Security Mechanism at IGAD-ICPAC.
The discussion focused on potential areas of collaboration on cross-cutting environmental and climate issues. Key topics included enhancing last-mile Climate Information Services, contributing to the development of a common African position on climate security, and scaling up the monthly Chief’s Climate Action Days. Additionally, the meeting addressed the promotion of dryland agroforestry and renewable energy sources to strengthen community resilience and provide alternative livelihoods through water provision via boreholes. The team also explored opportunities in green enterprises such as bamboo value chains and peace dividend projects. The two entities committed to continuing their engagement to achieve tangible environmental and climate outcomes. The meeting was also attended by Maria Wangare, Director of Policy, Regulations and Research, Molu Wato, Director of Waste Management and Pollution Control, Metrine Too, Deputy Director of Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution (State Department for ASALs) and Mr. Gitonga, Climate Change Directorate.
Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eric Mugaa inspected the Kibunga Kakimiki Water Supply Project in Marimanti Ward, Tharaka Nithi County. The project, located in Tharaka Sub-County, serves Turima, Marimanti, Matankiri, and Nkondi, drawing water from the perennial River Kathita. At 45% completion, it aims to provide clean water to 20,000 people and institutions by 2030. The CS was accompanied by area MP Murugara George Gitonga and officials from the implementing agency; Tana Water Works Development Agency led by chairman Mukundi Wambugu (Temuwa) and CEO Eng. Philip Gichuki.
