Prof. Erustus Kanga, Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service yesterday held a stakeholder engagement meeting at the Nairobi Safari Walk to gather feedback from tour operators on the development of a new KWSPay e-Wallet, aimed at simplifying payments for various services. The discussion focused on enhancing the ongoing KWSPay pilot—currently active in Nairobi National Park and 14 single-entry parks—to address challenges such as multiple bookings, currency limitations, and processing delays. Tour operators are invited to share their feedback on the proposed e-Wallet features and any challenges within the current pilot system, to enable KWS to refine the platform ahead of its full rollout.
Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, held a strategic meeting with the Malaria No More Japan team to deepen collaboration in the fight against malaria in Kenya. The engagement reinforces ongoing efforts under the Kenya Malaria Strategy 2023–2027, including targeted innovations in high-burden regions, research on ceiling nets in Homa Bay, and strengthened partnerships with KEMRI to advance diagnostics, drug resistance surveillance, and evidence-informed policymaking. The Nyanza Region Scouts Association has vowed to support the government agenda of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 to increase the forest cover in the country to 30 percent.
Speaking during the closure of the Nyanza Regional Scouts Competition held in Kubweye Secondary School in Kuria West Sub County, themed ‘Resilience towards climate change’, Nyanza Region Scouts Commissioner Elly Kisulu said that scouting will continue to play a major role towards achieving the 15 billion tree planting exercise. Kisilu also added that scouting is a practical venture that helps learners to actualise their theoretical skills, that incorporates collaboration, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving abilities. He disclosed that scouting is a discipline that trains students to respect authority, a core value that promotes servant leadership to students as they prepare to become future leaders. Nyanza Region Director of Education Lawrence Karuntimi, also lauded scouting as a key player in fostering leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills among the participants.
Seven prime suspects linked to the arson attack and malicious property damage at Mawego Police Station in Homa Bay county last week were arraigned before the Oyugis Law Courts. The court granted detectives a seven-day custodial order to allow for the completion of ongoing investigations.
