In an era where forward-looking institutions are rapidly embracing innovation, K Unity SACCO has positioned itself at the forefront of technological transformation through its long-standing partnership with leading fintech provider Craft Silicon.
According to Stella Njoroge, the Head of Finance at K Unity SACCO, the institution’s 17-year relationship with Craft Silicon has played a vital role in driving financial inclusion, digitization, and trusted service delivery. “Craft Silicon is not just a vendor. They are our enabler,” she said. “They have walked with us on this journey, helping us build systems that are modern, secure, and fully centered on our members.”
Stella noted that the partnership has significantly accelerated the SACCO’s digitization goals, with major gains in efficiency, scalability, and product innovation. “Recently, we undertook a major system upgrade with Craft Silicon that helped us rethink our entire ERP landscape. We’ve been able to digitize not just our core banking systems but also our property management, insurance products, and document management processes,” she explained.
This digital leap, Stella added, has enabled K Unity SACCO to go beyond traditional branch-based banking. “Today, our members can transact outside banking hours, access their balances remotely, and even apply for services online. That kind of access was not possible in the past.”
The digitization effort has also improved transparency and trust — key pillars in the SACCO sector. “Technology builds confidence. In the past, members had to walk into a banking hall to confirm their balances or initiate transactions. Now, they can do it all from their phones. That shift has restored a sense of control and assurance among our members,” she added.
Addressing concerns about data integrity and fraud that have occasionally plagued the SACCO industry, Stella affirmed that technology is the best safeguard. “With our upgraded systems, every transaction is tracked, every record backed up, and every member’s information is accessible securely. This is how we’re professionalizing the SACCO space.”
K Unity SACCO is also looking to grow its diaspora services, with ongoing efforts to automate that segment and offer its members global accessibility. “Our vision is not limited to Kenya. We’re using technology to serve our members wherever they are,” said Stella.
Importantly, the SACCO is now embracing artificial intelligence as the next frontier in its innovation journey. From service personalization to fraud detection and automation, the institution is working closely with Craft Silicon to implement AI-driven solutions that promise greater efficiency and smarter service delivery.
Stella emphasized that the shift to digital is not just about tools, but about reaching people. “We are heavily invested in member education, both physically and through digital platforms, to ensure our rural and urban clients alike know how to use mobile banking and access our services securely.”
As more financial cooperatives explore technology, K Unity SACCO’s forward-looking approach under the leadership of Stella Njoroge is setting an example of how long-term partnerships and local innovation can redefine service excellence and trust in the cooperative sector.
