International Women's Day

Worth Noting:
- Education is a great weapon that one can use to change the world. Equitable access to resources and opportunities from anyone presents a clear picture of a society that is ready to #BreakTheBias. In a society where women are educated, operate on a standardized pay scale that reflects also men’s salary and being taken through flexible working options is a great way of honouring them.
- Mentorship and sponsorships have played a major role in ensuring the girl grows and gets the right life to be a better version of a woman. Since 2006 when Jason and Jenni visited Kenya, they were struck by the degree that gender determined opportunities.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March in commemoration of the huge step made to realize an empowered woman. This day was an idea of Clara Zetkin in 1910, during the second International Conference that was held in Copenhagen.

This year’s theme “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” focuses on breaking the many stereotypes and discrimination that have been a hindrance to the rising of women. The society needs an empowered and educated lady for the purpose of growth of the community. It also highlights a need to break the gender inequalities to create an all-inclusive world.
Breaking the bias being the center of focus, ensures that women also get equal opportunities to compete with men.The sensitization of women empowerment has been a journey that is yet to be fully realized. The more diverse our world is, the more we can accommodate and grow each other without looking down on anyone.
However, tremendous strides have been made and we have ladies going against the community stereotypes like women can’t make good leaders and have no right to education. From the ability to access education, taking up “men oriented jobs”, being in leadership and even owning companies is a clear evidence of ability to perform. We can create a world where gender differences don’t derail us rather be a propelling aspect to our growth.

Mentorship and sponsorships have played a major role in ensuring the girl grows and gets the right life to be a better version of a woman. Since 2006 when Jason and Jenni visited Kenya, they were struck by the degree that gender determined opportunities. They realized most girls were married off at an early stage, of course leading to economic self-insufficiency. Over 233 girls have graduated from Daraja Academy with over 7200 hours of community services. This is a whole community being impacted through such a noble cause.
The school mission “Educate and empower girls from poverty to become community leaders”, has been a great driving force.Daraja staff collectively joins the whole world in championing for women’s equality. With the right energies and resources, we can protect women against being exposed to violences. We can always as a nation and world at large overcome the objectification of women that leads to low esteem and depression. When the world is silent, a woman’s voice can be powerful.
