Jimmy Kibaki, son of retired president Mwai Kibaki has hinted at running as either the senator or deputy governor of Nyeri.
He addressed the issue after the aspirants proposed that he be the deputy governor to Dr Thuo Mathenge.
In his speech, Kibaki said he couldn’t make the decision then since he wanted to consult his advisers who he said includes his father.
“I will give my position on that issue next week after making consultations,” he said.
Jimmy who is The National Democrats(TND) party’s Deputy Leader urged the youth to vie for the county assemblies representations as well as national assembly and leave the Senate and and gubernatorial positions to experienced and more elderly citizens who have practical skills in various fields.
Speaking during the party’s training workshop for Nyeri County aspirants, Kibaki challenged the youth to refrain from whining over leadership and use their numbers to fight for positions.
“Our population constitutes of over 80 per cent those under forty years and I always wonder why they must keep winning that they are sidelined yet their numbers can be positively used to achieve their goals”, wondered Kibaki.
He however hastened to add that the youth needed the wisdom and experience of their elders for prosperity and oneness of the nation.
“Sometimes the youth think that those of us above 55 have nothing to offer but despite the challenges in our youth like lack of technology, we still know a lot and can serve as institutional memories, “advised the party supremo.

The party chief disclosed that the party was unaligned in presidential race and urged aspirants to make individual independent decisions.
“We are supporting neither Kenya Kwanza Alliance nor Azimio la Umoja but we shall enter into a post-election agreement with the winner”, declared Mathenge.
He further added that since the party targets to get at least 50 members of the national assembly and a sizeable number of senators, no winner will afford to ignore the party.
The party’s National Vice Chairperson Vicky Onderi urged voters to elect focused leaders who will address issues of concern like agriculture, environment and youth development.
She who disclosed that she would be vying for the Kisii Woman Rep seat was certain of emerging the winner as she had done her ground work thoroughly.
Among the scores of aspirants were Town parliamentary hopeful Washington Ndegea, Tetu’s Alex Gathii of Tanolope and Othaya’s Lawrence Kagwi. Nominated MCA Ms Lucy Kariuki, former MCA/councillor, Wangai Proper and Kareithi Kinyua respectively were also in attendanance.
Among the trainers were the Mr Gakuru who is the party’s Organizing Secretary and the Executive Director Michael Mwangi Kibicho.
