Gachagua blames Ruto over Ol Kalou killings, rallies Mt Kenya support
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto’s administration of targeting the Mt Kenya region following the killing of two youths during the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County.
Speaking yesterday during the requiem mass for James Muigai and Zachariah Gakinya, who were killed in violence linked to the July 16 by-election, Gachagua claimed the deaths were part of a campaign of intimidation against the region. He said the victims lost their lives for exercising their democratic rights and insisted that Mt Kenya had withdrawn its political support for President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The former Deputy President argued that government efforts to regain support through financial inducements and intimidation would fail. He also urged Mt Kenya musicians to compose liberation songs to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua pledged justice for the victims’ families, promising reforms in the National Police Service and accountability for officers found culpable in the killings. He also unveiled “Operation Fagia,” a political campaign targeting leaders allied to President Ruto, and called for the establishment of a support fund to educate children left behind by the deceased.
The requiem was attended by several Gachagua-allied leaders before they addressed supporters in Nyahururu, where they renewed calls for political unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
