Othaya MP awards scholarship to student from top sub-county school in Nyeri

Othaya constituency Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina has praised the role of parents, teachers and school administrators in improving academic performance.
He spoke yesterday during the annual prize-giving ceremony at Ihuririo Secondary School in his constituency after it was named the best sub-county secondary school as per last year’s KCSE results in Nyeri County.
The event brought together parents, teachers, students and local leaders to celebrate outstanding academic achievement and recognize learners who excelled in various fields.
The school emerged as the top-performing in the sub-county secondary schools category after posting a mean grade of C (Plain).
Addressing the gathering, Wainaina said the school’s performance demonstrated the value of strong collaboration between parents and the school administration. He noted that continued cooperation among all stakeholders remains critical in creating a conducive learning environment and sustaining academic improvement.
The legislator encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and challenged them to strive for even greater achievements in future national examinations.
Nyeri County Assembly nominated MCA representing Gender, Ms Agnes Wachira who attended the colourful event urged parents to strengthen their relationship with their children, saying close parental guidance plays a vital role in shaping responsible and disciplined learners. She also called on students to uphold discipline both in school and at home, describing good conduct as an essential ingredient for academic success.
The ceremony’s highlight was the presentation of a fully funded scholarship by the Wambugu Wainaina Foundation to Charles Wanjohi, a member of the school’s 2025 KCSE class. The scholarship was awarded in recognition of his impressive academic performance and is expected to support his pursuit of higher education.
School leaders expressed gratitude for the support from leaders, parents and education stakeholders, saying such partnerships continue to motivate students and contribute to improved learning outcomes.
They reaffirmed the school’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards while nurturing discipline, character and holistic development among learners.
