Bodaboda operators countrywide want the government to allow them to self-regulate as way of restoring sanity in the multibillion industry.
Speaking during training of operators from Kirimikuyu area in Mathira constituency, the operators national chairman Kelvin Badi said that the only way to weed out bad elements in the industry is to ensure riders are in the saccos .
“The surest way to regulate these operators is to ensure they are in saccos where those who are errant can be identified by sacco officials who will be working with law enforcer’s” said Badi.
The officials said that at the moment most of the operators are willingly to join saccos and register digitally for ease of identification.
Faith muthoni an official of Nacada and who had brought together various arms of the government involved in the training said that rogue riders are actually drug abuser who needs help.
“As we move to reign on these riders we must not lose sight that they are drug abusers who need our help we will help these young lads to earn a livingโ said Muthoni.
Last week the government halted national wide crackdown ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta and instead gave the riders a leeway to register digitally in two months.
