Evans Asikoyo -the Poet
In the alley where shadows creep,
Lies a world where dreams now weep.
A puff, a sip, a needle’s sting,
A fleeting joy, but sorrow’s king.
Oh, youth! So bold, so bright, so free,
Why dance with death, why can’t you see?
The poison seeps through veins so pure,
Yet leaves a heart that can’t endure.
Repetition’s whisper echoes loud,
As minds are lost within the crowd.
“Just one more time,” the demons plead,
But chains of darkness, they only breed.
The rhyme of ruin sings its song,
Where the weak and weary do belong.
Eyes once bright with future’s glow,
Now dimmed by powders, fast and slow.
In the smoke, a bitter irony,
Seeking freedom, yet bound in tyranny.
Running from pain, yet finding despair,
Chasing illusions that vanish in air.
See the boy who once could fly,
Now grounded, broken, too numb to cry.
See the girl who danced with grace,
Now lost in time, a hollow face.
The imagery of decay unfolds,
A garden of youth, where weeds take hold.
Broken dreams and shattered trust,
Ashes of innocence, turned to dust.
Yet, hope still lingers in the breeze,
A cure for this dark disease.
Education’s light to break the spell,
Counseling hearts that in shadows dwell.
Families bound in love’s embrace,
Communities rising to heal the space.
Rehabilitation, a guiding hand,
To lead the lost to solid land.
Preach to the youth, the dangers that lie,
In the drug-filled world where futures die.
Empower the minds, uplift the soul,
Help them reclaim what darkness stole.
Oh, youth! So bold, so bright, so free,
Break the chains and let it be.
For life is precious, vast, and wide,
Choose the light and let hope be your guide
