Nyeri Governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga on Saturday joined co-operators from Nyeri County for the UN International Co-operative Alliance (Ushirika) Day celebrations.
The day is set aside to celebrate the role that cooperatives play for the social and economic growth within the society.
The County Government of Nyeri is committed to empowering people through co-operatives to realise their social economic aspirations for shared prosperity.
He assured the co-operators of the county government’s support noting that raft measures have been put in place to ensure the 193 active co-operative societies with a membership of over 450, 000 members have a continued prosperity.
The Governor urged the co-operatives’ management to remain faithful and prudent in their work.
He assured them of his commitment to ensure that the annual capacity building program for cooperative leaders that is fully facilitated by the County Government is always implemented to improve corporate governance.
Those who attended this year’s training were awarded certificated by Dedan Kimathi University of Technology today. Since the program was intiated in year 2019, 1,800 leaders have been trained.
The theme of this year is ‘Cooperatives Builds a Better World.’
Governor Kahiga also thanked the sponsors of the event which was held outside the Governor’s office.
The best cooperators took home trophies and certificates.
Also present were CEC Trade Dianah Kendi, Chief Officer George Mwangi, Director Co-operative Development Peter Theuri, Nyeri County Co-operative Development Forum chairman Newton Ndiritu, Vice Chairman John Githinji among others.
