The king ordered one of the captives to die. The helpless captive became depressed. He almost lost his mind. They say, “A heart that has given up hope of its life will say whatever it wants”… The captive did not look at him, but began to insult the king in the language of his people and say obscene words. The king, speaking in anger, asked curiously what this captive said. One of the good-hearted ministers:
– They say, “Those who overcome their anger and forgive people…”, my king, – he said.
The king took pity and took a spoonful of his blood. But another minister who is dissatisfied with this:
“People like us have nothing but to speak the truth in front of the king,” he said. This captive dishonored our king; said inappropriate words.
The king’s face darkened when he heard the words of the second minister. Turning to the minister:
– He said to me, it’s his lie. – It was more burning than your true words. Because it was for a false good. However, this honesty is based on evil. Because the wise say: “A lie used for good is better than a right word that causes a conspiracy.”
The minister could not find any other way than to bow his head in front of these words of the king.
Wisdom
One word can turn two friends into enemies. One word can reconcile two enemies. Therefore, it is better to think about each word before speaking.
