The Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) in Machakos County is nearing completion, with 220 houses valued at Sh515 million being built.
The project, which includes 60 bedsitters, 60 three-bedroom, 60 two-bedroom, and 40 one-bedroom units, is expected to be completed in September.
State Department for Housing Don Kagicha, the Nairobi Metropolitan Regional Lead, praised the project for promoting social and economic growth in the region and attracting local Jua Kali artisans.
Melita Kipury, the State Department for Housing’s Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSME) Inclusion Lead, emphasised the importance of Jua Kali inclusion in the project.
Kipury assured that the Jua Kali sector has the capacity to provide the necessary inputs, stating that the sector has the resources and workmanship to mass produce and supply the necessary materials on time.
More than 300 Jua Kali artisans have been contracted to provide doors and windows for the housing project.
