Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina Kirinyaga has called for a crackdown on corruption cartels in Nyeri county government which he says has denied residents essential services.
Speaking to the press after a meeting with a section teachers,Β Maina said that vital services such as health and education have been greatly effected due to corruption in the county govenent.
He says that as a results investigative agencies should move with speed to arest and prosecute officials involved.
“As the senator of Nyeri and aspirant for governor, I am pained by lack of essential services. Many people are being turned away and told to buy drugs in private chemists yet the county is getting fair share of funding from national government. Something needs to be done,” said Maina.
He added that the county is also performing poorly in education due to corruption.
“Before Nyeri was known due to its prowess on education. During our time many university students were from Nyeri but today few if any securing slots in admission,” he observed.
A month ago teachers from the county backed Maina’s bid saying that they a corrupt free government .
