Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) officials in Mt Kenya want Speaker Justin Muturi ousted from party leadership

A section of officials of Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) from the mountain region want Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi ousted as the party senior most person.
The officials say Muturi has betrayed them by among other things, joining a political coalition without the approval of the party’s top organ.
Yesterday, party officials from Nyeri, Laikipia, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi and Nyandarua counties held a consultative meeting at Ibis Hotel in Nyeri town where they castigated Muturi for going against resolutions passed during the party’s National Delegates Conference on February 20 at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
The officials, Muchemi Kingaro (Nyeri), Isaac Kaniaru (Laikipia), Ayub Wangford (Nyandarua), Silas Mutegi Mwendwa (Tharaka Nithi) and Ben Makimei (Murang’a) vowed to ensure that Muturi would not be their party’s official or member in the next six months.
Led by Kingaro, the officials said they will use the party constitution to kick out the Speaker who is also the party’s Presidential aspirant.
“We are calling on JB Muturi to resign from the party. If he doesn’t, we shall in six months kick him out as per the constitution of the party,” Kingaro said.
A few weeks ago, Muturi and a few party officials met with Deputy President Dr William Ruto where it was announced that the party founded by the late President Mwai Kibaki was joining the Kenya Kwanza coalition. He was accompanied by among others, patron Joseph Munyao, chairman Essau Kioni and Secretary General Jacob Haji.
The move angered some party officials led by its deputy Secretary General Wambugu Nyamu, Director of Election DK Munene and member King’ori Choto who wrote to the registrar of Political Parties protesting against the move.
The matter is now before a court and is set to come up for hearing on May 9.
At the same time, the officials who said had also the blessings of the party’s Nakuru County chairman Waititu Njoroge eulogized the party founding chairman for diligently steering the country forward.
They said the late Kibaki was a super perfomer whose work will forever remain edged in the minds of many generations.
