Worth Noting:
- Looking at family members present, Gachagua told them. We hope you will be giving us updates on her progress.
- In the meantime, the DP took this opportunity to hit out at the successive governments of independent Kenya. Though he would not mention the founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta by his name, he talked of how that government failed to recognize the gallant role played by freedom fighters and instead resorted to mistreating them. Some of them fled the country for fear of being eliminated and up to now it is not known where they went.
- The colonial authorities were behind this because their main goal was to safeguard their interests.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was on a three-day working tour of Luo Nyanza when he received the unfortunate and disturbing news that Mukami, the wife of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi had been detained at a Nairobi hospital for failing to pay a bill of 1.3 million.
She had been rushed to the hospital a week earlier after she started complaining of chest pain and numbness.
In a video posted on social media, Mukami was being seen pleading with the well-wishers to help her pay the bill. She singled out President William Ruto and his Deputy. I’m pleading with the two leaders to come to my aid. She was struggling to speak and her voice was very down. This suggested she had not fully healed.
The DP said the President was so touched when I brought this matter to his attention the same way as I was.
The DP would immediately swing into action. As he had stated, he visited Mukami at the hospital the following day during which prayed for her quick recovery.
The DP, who was accompanied by dozens of legislators from Mt Kenya region, also broke the good news to Mukami, 94, and her family that the President has cleared the bill.
Even after being discharged, we will still need to be closely monitor her.
Maitu (mum) we love you. My prayer is that God will give you a good health and long live so that we can continue to see you and seek your advise.
Looking at family members present, Gachagua told them. We hope you will be giving us updates on her progress.

The colonial authorities were behind this because their main goal was to safeguard their interests.
When they colonized us, the British settlers forcibly took large swathes of our fertile land and named it crown land.
We were displaced and confined into tribal villages. We literally become refugees in our own country.
In crown land, they invested heavily in large scale farming and rearing livestock. They used us to do hard labour in these farms.
This explains why the colonialists never trusted the Mau Mau. So, their strategy was to ensure Jomo’s government is led home-guards and collaborators. This worked.
According to Gachagua, the succeeding governments took the cue and this explains why we are still grappling with this challenge almost 60 years since Kenya attained self-internal rule in 1963 and full independence in 1964 one and half year later.
As Kenya Kwanza government, this is a matter we want to address and put behind us.
We know the collaborators replaced the colonial settlers. They own huge chunks of our land. Our position is that they should surrender this land. We know God will hear our prayers.
We all know that Mau Mau fighters went to the forest to fight for freedom and land. It is unfortunate to note they never got anything.
If we manage to reclaim land, we shall distribute it to them, their families and other landless Kenyans.
Gachagua fell short of firing warning shot to home-guards and other Kenyans who were serving the colony’s interests as colonial administrators that thier days were numbered.
This demonstrated he is walking the talk. During the campaign, he used call himself the son of Mau Mau.
My father went to the forest to fight for freedom.
If UDA/Kenya Kwanza takes over, we shall ensure the blood they shed was not in vain.
