The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) has called on leaders within the United Opposition to set aside personal ambitions and political differences and unite behind a common agenda to address the challenges facing Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, DP National Chairman Peter Ndubai urged opposition leaders to prioritise meaningful dialogue on issues affecting ordinary citizens instead of engaging in unnecessary political exchanges and confrontations among themselves.
Ndubai said Kenyans were looking for a united opposition capable of presenting a common presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto through a democratic and constitutional process in the 2027 elections.
He noted that the opposition had a responsibility to offer Kenyans a credible political alternative anchored on unity, accountability, transparent leadership and policies that respond to the needs of the people.
The DP chairman cautioned political leaders against exploiting ethnic, religious and social differences for political gain, saying such divisions undermined national cohesion and the constitutional principles that hold the country together.
He emphasised that Kenya belonged to all its citizens and that every community was equal before the Constitution, adding that no Kenyan should face discrimination because of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, social status or background.
The party said the country’s political leadership should focus on addressing pressing socioeconomic challenges, including the rising cost of living, unemployment, economic hardship, access to quality healthcare and the need to create more opportunities for young people.
Ndubai observed that these were the issues that mattered most to ordinary Kenyans and should therefore form the foundation of opposition engagement and political mobilisation.
He challenged opposition leaders to recognise that citizens expected more than political rhetoric, urging them to demonstrate maturity, responsibility and a shared commitment to national transformation.
The DP maintained that the period ahead of the 2027 elections should be characterised by constructive engagement, national unity and the development of a people-centred political agenda rather than internal rivalries that could weaken the opposition.
