Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njuki has revealed a plan to introduce a drone technology that will enhance testing of samples in Tharaka Nithi hospitals towards bettering healthcare in the County.
For instance,Njuki said it will take only 20 minutes for a drone from Chuka hospital to Marimanti hospital to pick a sample and another 20 minutes to return the sample to Chuka for testing.
He said this will help improve efficiency in lab testing without locals having to incur huge expenses and spending a lot of time.
Another technology Njuki announced to launch soon is Geo technology to map out every homestead in the county, saying already a software is in place doing the task and Community Health Promoters will be trained on handling GIS information.
“The technology is expected to end stuffing health facilities in the county with unnecessary drugs when residents require specific drugs which are not available,” the governor said.
Njuki who chairs the Health Committee in the council of governors, lauded CHPs in the county for an exemplary job they have done in improving health care in the County since 2017 when he took over.
For instance,he noted that the county has attained 95 % in immunisation of infants, while the number of households with latrines has gone up to 93% from 67% since 2017.
Community Health Units rose from 27 dysfunctional units to 127 functional units, noting the need to further increase them to 135 with the growing population.
Thus,Njuki said the focus is now bettering health care in the County by stopping illnesses at village levels, which will reduce unnecessary congestion at health facilities with the end of self refferals.
The County government of Tharaka Nithi was the first to initiate Community Health Volunteers which now has been replicated in all the counties as Community Health Promoters.
He was speaking when he officially commissioned 1267 Community Health Promoters in the county at his official residence at Ruguri, Kajuki.
