Musicians and artists in Nairobi have launched a peace and cohesion campaign ahead of the forthcoming August elections.
Courtesy of Integrated Development Network, NCIC, and Jitume Foundation, the artists launched the peace initiative drive at Gotta City, Jacaranda grounds in Embakasi East.
Among celebrities present was Wyre da love child, comedian Owago Onyiro, DJ Shiti, DJ double trouble, musicians Madocho, Bro. Mfalme, JFAM, Ezra FBI, Achicho software, Ghetto spice, Dynamics, MC Paps, Mc Nelly, Japesa, SM Amimo, and Shanty Bobo.
The concert dubbed ‘Jitume Peace Concert‘ is targeting youths in Nairobi slums and across the 21 hotspot zones that NCIC has mapped out, as areas where electoral violence is likely to erupt.
“Soweto is our campaign launch-pad and our aim is to urge youths to be independent and avoid being misused by political leaders,” said Dr. Kevin Cassypool Capon, the Founder and President of Jitume Foundation.

“We don’t want the youths to be the ones being used to conduct violence at any point. Any person found perpetuating violence will be dealt with accordingly,” said NCIC Commissioner Dr. Danvas Makori.
“We will use our platforms through music and artistry, during this electioneering period and afterward to spread messages of peace and cohesion to Kenyans. There is a need for the government to support youths’ empowerment through talent harnessing, nurturing, and rewarding” said peace brand ambassador Kevin Wyre.
“Of concern has been the wreckless utterances and unhealthy machinations from the political class leaders; that is now openly becoming divisive, tribal, and fast planting seeds of hatred and violence. The youths remain very vulnerable and continue to be used by politicians to cause mayhem”. “There is need for the Government to crack down on recruitment agencies that exploit and misuse youths by offering foreign jobs, only to end up being recruited to terror ~ related gangs such as Al-Shabaab, Al Qaida, and ISIS”, said Dennis Wendo, Founder and CEO Integrated Development Network(IDN-K).
During the event, in unison, the artists pledged to collaborate with an emphasis on;
- The need for 2022 peaceful elections and subsequent transition~ for socio-economic and political stability that will spur the creation of jobs and opportunities for the youths.
- The need for the Government (ODPP, DCI NCIC, OMBUDSMAN, IEBC) to crack down on leaders & politicians that incite and fund youths to cause electoral mayhem and tame hate speech mongers.
Commissioner Dr. Danvas Makori lauded the peace initiative drive and promised to work jointly with the NCIC in supporting the artists as they traverse the slum areas of Nairobi and other parts of the country in their endeavors to ensure the elections are peaceful.
