Elijah Obebo was sworn in as the third Deputy Governor for Kisii County since the advent of devolution.
Obebo took oath of office at Gusii Stadium by Justice Anne Ong’injo, taking over from the immediate former Deputy Governor, Dr. Robert Monda, who was impeached.
Wyclife Siocha, the Ichuni Ward Representative, tabled an impeachment motion against Monda over abuse of office, gross misconduct, and gross violation of the constitution.
The Senate subsequently impeached him. Monda sought legal redress, but the court ruled that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should gazette and swear in the Deputy Governor designate.
Speaking during swearing in ceremony, Obebo pledged to work hard to ensure that Governor Simba Arati, elected through ODM, realizes his manifesto to benefit the residents of the County.
The new Deputy Governor, who was the chairperson of the Kisii County Public Service Board (CPSB), pledged to fight graft in alignment with the governor’s resolve.
“I resonate well with your stance on zero tolerance to corruption and prudent use of public resources,” Obebo said.
He stressed that he will be loyal to his boss Governor Arati .
He noted that being sworn in had ended his short stint at the board, adding that they had achieved much under Arati’s leadership.
“To those naysayers, Your Excellency, let them take notice that your government shall deliver quality services to residents,” the Deputy Governor said.
Governor Arati advised Obebo not to be involved in graft to employ people, noting that the county was not hiring.
He urged county staff to collaborate with the Deputy Governor and warned that he would not hesitate to take action against officers involved in corruption.
Arati emphasized the importance of observing the law and managing public resources well to avoid conflicts with the law and prosecution.
The governor expressed his belief in Obebo’s commitment to good governance and integrity in public affairs and anticipated that he would help steer the county to greater heights.
He appealed to residents to support them r so that they can fulfill the pledges made during the last general election campaigns.
Mr Obebo hails from Masongo Location in Nyaribari Chache Constituency and is an alumni of Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology where he studied his Master of Business Administration (MBA) .
He has also done several other courses.
Mr Obebo ,60, retired from the civil service mid last year after accumulating over 33 years of work experience as Supply Chain Management Specialist.
Obebo was serving as Chairman of the Kisii County Public Service Board (CPSB) after his appointment .
Deputy governor Obebo with his experience and track records he will work now hand in hand with his boss governor Arati to bring to transform the county.
