The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Energy, chaired by Hon. Eng. Musau Vincent Musyoka (Mwala) convened a meeting with the State Department for Energy and various relevant Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) to discuss the 2023 Budget Policy Statement.
The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Davis Chirchir led ministry officials appearing before the Energy Committee. He was flanked by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Energy, Mr. Alex Wachira and Principal Secretary, State Department for Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Liban.
The committee members focused on assessing the following areas:
- Key sectoral policies underlying the expenditure ceilings
- Key policies, programmes, key outputs and targets in the medium term
- Copy of submissions to the Sector Working Groups (SWGs)
- Indicative performance targets linked to progrmames and projects
- Project information (status of projects, stalled projects, new projects and confirmation of approval by the National Treasury).
“The economy is driven by the energy sector. We will continue to offer support and call on all Energy stakeholders to achieve their mandate. We look forward to collaborating with the Ministry in order to be of service to Kenyans.” Said the Committee Chairman, who re-affirmed the committee’s commitment to working with the Ministry.
