Family in Kisii Seeks Justice After Kin Allegedly Neglected and Pleads to Death in Local Hospitals

In a tragic incident in Kisii, the Matundura family is grieving the loss of 36-year-old Geoffrey Matundura, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident amidst allegations of negligence by Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) and Nyacheki Sub County Hospital.
Matundura was involved in a road accident on January 3rd along Nyacheki-Nyangusu highway in Bobasi constituency while riding his motorbike home.
His family claims that he suffered leg injuries and was initially taken to Nyacheki Sub County Hospital, where he allegedly received no attention. Subsequently, he was rushed to KTRH.
During Matundura’s burial ceremony in Bokinami village in Baasi Bogetaorio, the family expressed distress over the circumstances of his death, noting that Matundura was the primary breadwinner, and his demise was attributed to hospital negligence.
Tiberius Abaya, Matundura’s brother, recounted the ordeal, stating that Matundura passed away at the KTRH emergency section after prolonged neglect.
The postmortem report indicated two leg fractures and internal bleeding as the cause of death, highlighting the lack of timely medical attention at the referral hospital.
Abaya urged that his brother’s tragic experience should be the last case of negligence at KTRH
Matundura’s wife, Juliet Bosibori, emphasized that her husband’s injuries were not fatal, expressing regret that timely medical care could have saved him.
Now left without the family’s breadwinner, Bosibori appealed for assistance to sponsor their daughter’s education at Nyabururu Girls National School, citing the burden of caring for their three children.
She called upon the government of Kisii to conduct impromptu visits to health facilities to understand the challenges patients face in the hands of healthcare providers who are supposed to save lives.
David Ogega, a church elder, seized the opportunity to call upon Governor Simba Arati to make surprise visits to local hospitals, assess conditions, and address the alleged suffering of patients due to healthcare workers’ negligence.
Ogega highlighted the pain of losing a patient to hospital negligence in the current era and urged the governor to align his speeches with the actual state of healthcare facilities, taking necessary actions to improve the system.
